The legacy system and the metadata implementation

The P. Albino provincial library's legacy system is represented by the software application of the Virtual Library (BV). That system is based on a DBMS MS-ACCESS on a WINDOWS NT platform and the digital images are archived on the disk independently of database. The management software links the catalog's records to the corresponding images.

The BDPA doesn't substitute the legacy system, but it is an integration, duplicating catalog's data and providing a better visibility of the available digital resources. The BDPA has reduced abilities for the automatic search, that instead is available in the legacy system, but it is connoted by a considerable technological independence, distinguishing for this reason from the legacy system.
